INTERVIEW with HORROR AUTHOR WILLIAM SCHEINMAN

William Scheinman was born and raised in New York City and moved to San Francisco in the 1980s. Though he has written fiction since he was a teenager, it wasn’t until 1989 that he turned to horror. His stories have appeared in various small press publications and an anthology, including the Stoker-recommended “The Work of Dennis Hobbs” and Years Best Fantasy & Horror honorable mentions “Shimmering Thing” and “In The Mind, In The Meadow.” In 2004 Mr. Scheinman compiled these stories for the collection, The Alchemy of Nightmares. In 2005 he completed work on White Light, a novel of dark fantasy set in San Francisco. MindFlesh, a feature film version of White Light, is currently making the festival circuit throughout 2008 and has already garnered many good reviews and an award for best horror film.

A practicing Buddhist with an active dark side, Mr. Scheinman has held a variety of disparate jobs, from San Francisco taxi driver to post-Internet bubble day trader to grant writer for non-profits. As a volunteer, he teaches meditation and stress reduction to incarcerated men at the San Francisco County Jail. His interests include yoga, cooking, working out, fine wine, politics and, of course, the art of the macabre. He currently works as an editor and a web designer, and is a co-founder of Stress Reduction at Work, a service that brings mindfulness meditation training to workplaces.
